The rotator cuff refers to the group of muscles and tendons surrounding the shoulder joint responsible for keeping the bone within the shoulder socket and the majority of shoulder movement. 
Rotator cuff injuries cause an ache in the shoulder area and can cause a reduced range of motion. A rotator cuff injury generally occur from repetitive overhead motions. Those with jobs that require excessive shoulder movement for example athletes, mechanics or carpenters, and painters are more likely to injure the rotator cuff. The risk of rotator cuff injury also increases drastically with age.

For most younger people, rotator cuff injuries are usually caused by a trauma to the area that causes the rotator cuff to tear. These injuries generally begin with inflammation to the shoulder region caused by some form of continuous motion or irritation for example repetitive motions from sports, chores, and work, that can lead to severe tendonitis or bursitis and discomfort and potentially tearing and loss of motion in the rotator cuff area.

Luckily rotator cuff injuries are fairly easy to treat and is a curable injury.
Generally the injury can be treated through strengthening the muscles and tendons with physiotherapy, home ultrasound treatments, steroid injections, and in extreme situations surgery.
